A great way to say it is, offers after they drive it because if they haven’t driven it, most likely the offer is not that serious.
But I’ll give you $1,600, it’s the best offer you’ve gotten so you should take it.

FWIW the paint on your car looks good. Lot of gloss for a 1994, and that’s during the shitty clear coat years.

True, I didn’t have to, but it’s hard to not be when someone offers 50% of asking on an already cheap car within 3 hours of the ad going up...
Also, with such an offer/string of odd questions, one can be 100% certain this person will not be buying the car.

I have bought two cars when I was slightly inebriated and offering way lower offers than I thought the seller would accept. Worked out well both times, so can’t hate a guy for trying.

I’m surprised he didn’t come in with the usual “what’s the lowest you’ll take?”
to which the only answer should be “I don’t know, what’s the most you’ll pay?”

I get that one about 49% of the time and I get this shoot-the-moon lowball crap the other 49%. 2% of the time I get serious interest.

The Jeep I just bought was posted for $4000. I ended up paying $2000. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

Low-dollar craigslist offers are tricky. I always low-ball too; if you didn’t specifically say $3000 firm then it’s a good place for him to start. Why offer more if you can get it for less? It’s how I got my Jeep for half of what he was asking. No shame in giving a counter offer.

Usually I reserve the half-price offers for when I go to look at something and I end up not wanting it but the owner pushes for an offer. It’s how I regrettably ended up with a massive useless boat for about 8 months.

I must be the only one that constantly gets offers for “Ink Work” in trade.
